Shopping Sweet!
The students of Sweet Briar College are no strangers to hard work or unique experiences. Since 2006 business students have been able to engage in practicums to earn credits toward their major by working in real world situations, while helping the college flourish. Shop Sweet was started by students in fall of 2013. The first member Lorelei Whitaker, wanted to continue this program so she and Kim Orchowski kept it as a practicum for all future students. Amy Leigh Campbell ’97 and Sharon Watts Turner ’91 play a major part in the overseeing of this group today.
The Shop Sweet Academic practicum can be taken for various numbers of credit depending on number of hours put in. This “class” provides students with much needed experience for working in business. The current Shop Sweet group is divided into two sub-groups: marketing and management. Once a week the entire group meets together to brainstorm new products, discuss sales, and address problems encountered the week before. This semester has been especially exciting because we are embarking on something totally new and exciting. This semester we have spent most of our time designing a new website. We are happy to announce that Shop Sweet has merged its inventory and operations with the Book Shop for one-stop Vixen shopping! Now we are even bigger and better. This is connecting the campus even more, as well as providing more and better products online. We hope that you are as excited and happy about this new development as we are!
